چکیده

Generalized metric spaces are a common generalization of preorders and ordinary metric spaces (Lawvere 1973). Combining Lawvere's (1973) enriched-categorical and Smyth' (1988, 1991) topological view on generalized metric spaces, it is shown how to construct 1. completion , 2. topology, and 3. powerdomains for generalized metric spaces. Restricted to the special cases of preorders and ordinary metric spaces, these constructions yield, respectively: 1. chain completion and Cauchy completion; 2. the Alexandroo and the Scott topology, and the-ball topology; 3. lower, upper, and convex powerdomains, and the hyperspace of compact subsets. All constructions are formulated in terms of (a metric version of) the Yoneda (1954) embedding.

Numerical Solution of the Kohn-Sham Equation by Finite Element Methods with an Adaptive Mesh Redistribution Technique

A finite element method with an adaptive mesh redistribution technique is presented for solving the Kohn-Sham equation. The mesh redistribution strategy is based on the harmonic mapping, and the movement of grid points is partially controlled by the monitor function that depends on the gradient of the electron density. Compared with fixed meshes, both efficiency and accuracy of the solution are...

Robotic Nudges: The Ethics of Engineering a More Socially Just Human Being

Robots are becoming an increasingly pervasive feature of our personal lives. As a result, there is growing importance placed on examining what constitutes appropriate behavior when they interact with human beings. In this paper, we discuss whether companion robots should be permitted to "nudge" their human users in the direction of being "more ethical". More specifically, we use Rawlsian princi...

POD a-posteriori error analysis for optimal control problems with mixed control-state constraints

In this work linear-quadratic optimal control problems for parabolic equations with mixed control-state constraints are considered. These problems arise when a Lavrentiev regularization is utilized for state constrained linearquadratic optimal control problems. For the numerical solution a Galerkin discretization is applied utilizing proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). Based on a perturbatio...

Perceived stress has genetic influences distinct from neuroticism and depression.

The present study investigated whether the genetic determinants of neuroticism and depressive symptoms differ from those underlying perceived psychological stress. Multivariate structural equation models, which included age and sex as modifiers, were fitted to the total sample of 798 adolescents and young adults (female, n = 459; mean age 15.5 years). The sample included 139 monozygotic and 241...

On optimal multiple changepoint algorithms for large data

Many common approaches to detecting changepoints, for example based on statistical criteria such as penalised likelihood or minimum description length, can be formulated in terms ofminimising a cost over segmentations. We focus on a class of dynamic programming algorithms that can solve the resulting minimisation problem exactly, and thus find the optimal segmentation under the given statistica...
